Octodad Wiki

Chef Fujimoto is the main antagonist of Octodad and its sequel, and is a sushi chef.

His obsession with exposing Octodad springs from a flashback in Octodad: Dadliest Catchin which Octodad is a stowaway on his boat. The chef is also one of the only characters who recognises Octodad as an octopus. He then reconciles with Octodad after a hug and forgives him.

Biography[]

Fishing War[]

Fujimoto is aboard a fishing boat where Octodad and Scarlet meet. He claims that "the war" is not about international fishing rights but against cod—“the deadliest fish on earth”— who infiltrated human society. He recounts how he once killed a man, only to discover that he was nothing more than “a pile of fish.” This tale hints at a deep-rooted paranoia and fear of fish infiltrating human life. Fujimoto becomes suspicious of Octodad’s odd behavior. After an altercation, the Chef is knocked overboard by Octodad, which marks the beginning of his personal vendetta.

Octodad[]

Fujimoto is seen in an advertisement for his business, Fujimoto’s Fine Fish and Sushi, where he confidently states that he knows who Octodad really is. Determined to expose Octodad, the Chef eventually tracks him to his suburban home. In an attempt to corner his prey, he bursts into the dining room, setting it on fire and daring Octodad to climb a ladder through the flames. However, his plan backfires when he’s tricked by a mannequin dressed like Octodad, and he’s forcibly removed from the house by Octodad’s children, Tommy and Stacy. Despite this failure, the Chef vows to continue his pursuit of Octodad. He later confronts Octodad in a room with lasers in order to kill him, however, Octodad manages to get out of the situation safely.

Octodad: Dadliest Catch[]

Still having a bitter grudge against the aquatic mollusc, the cook continued his hunt. He attempts to mow down Octodad with a lawnmower, ambushes him with a butcher knife in a supermarket, and eventually captures him during a trip to the aquarium. There, he strips Octodad of his disguise and throws him into a tank.

After taking the octopus' confused family to the empty cafeteria, the Chef attempts to expose Octodad's true species to his family, but is unsuccessful until Octodad returns, showing his own family who he really is. A struggle between the two leads to the entire cafe to catch on fire, but it is eventually put out and the Chef is thwarted. However, Octodad forgives the chef who realizes the value of family and abandons his relentless pursuit, choosing to make peace with his former enemy.

Career[]

Fishing Boat[]

Before becoming obsessed with exposing Octodad, Chef Fujimoto worked as a chef aboard a fishing boat involved in legal international fishing. The boat was part of a legitimate operation, but it was also where Fujimoto’s deep paranoia about fish began to intensify. This is where he first encountered Octodad and Scarlet, setting off the chain of events that would lead to Fujimoto’s relentless pursuit of Octodad. His story about cutting down a man, only to reveal that he was "nothing but a pile of fish," highlights his growing obsession and fear of fish taking over humanity.

Restaurant[]

While Scarlet and Octodad go on a date to the restaurant in the Dad Romance level, Chef Fujimoto doesn’t recognize Octodad as the octopus he’s been hunting. In this level, he simply remains unaware of Octodad’s identity, focusing only on working. This marks the restaurant as a somewhat neutral setting where the family tries to enjoy a peaceful evening, without any interference from Fujimoto’s personal vendetta.

Fujimoto's Fine Fish and Sushi[]

After leaving the fishing boat, Fujimoto went on to open Fujimoto’s Fine Fish and Sushi. His restaurant became known for its high-quality seafood, but it also became the site of his obsessive pursuit of Octodad. An advertisement for his restaurant appears on TV in the first game, where he publicly acknowledges Octodad.

Gervason’s Grocery Store[]

In Octodad: Dadliest Catch, a can of mini ravioli featuring Fujimoto’s branding is seen at Gervason's Grocery Store, suggesting that his business has expanded into food products.

Curry Aquatic Fun Center[]

Fujimoto also worked at the Curry Aquatic Fun Center, where he eventually tracked down Octodad and uncovered his true identity. The center’s aquarium setting provided a dramatic backdrop for their final confrontation, culminating in a moment of clarity where Fujimoto, after a series of explosive encounters, reconciled with Octodad and chose to let go of his relentless vendetta.

Relationships[]

Scarlet and Chef Fujimoto did dislike each other since they met each other. They probably were okay with each other later in the game.

Stacy thinks that Chef Fujimoto is crazy.

Octodad and Chef Fujimoto were enemies, until Octodad gave him a friendly hug.

Tommy has no proper relationship with Chef Fujimoto, unless you count tackling him as having a relationship, yet he does mention a “crazy chef guy” in the second level, a hint to his upcoming attack.

Trivia[]

  • Some of the reasoning for his actions is revealed in an obscure piece of dialogue in the stowaway scene. If you listen to the story Chef tells during Scarlet's distraction, he will recall the events of “the war.”He claims “cod are the deadliest fish on earth.” He then describes how they infiltrated humanity and how he once cut down a man only to reveal that he was a pile of fish.
  • The Chef appears to have an issue with pineapples. Both sailors in the flashback and Marine Biologists towards the end of the game remember events where the chef was aggressive with pineapples.
  • His accent and speech pattern are notably similar to racist stereotypical depictions of Asian people, whether or not this was intended however remains unknown.
